When I first heard this song I cried: Valparaiso by Sting: Chase the dog star Over the sea Home where my true love is waiting for me Rope the south wind Canvas the stars Harness the moonlight So she can safely go Round the Cape Horn to Valparaiso
Red the port light Starboard the green How will she know of the devils I've seen Cross in the sky, star of the sea Under the moonlight, there she can safely go Round the Cape Horn to Valparaiso Valparaiso
And every road I walked would take me down to the sea With every broken promise in my sack And every love would always send the ship of my heart Over the rolling sea
If I should die And water's my grave She'll never know if I'm damned or I'm saved See the ghost fly over the sea Under the moonlight, there she can safely go Round the Cape Horn to Valparaiso Valparaiso Valparaiso Valparaiso

That's nice. I think my favourite Sting song, other than Russians, (which of course steals Prokofiev's brilliant Lt Kije), is 'Fortress around your heart'. It always made me think of stuff from a man's point of view. You know, relationships. I imagined I was like the guy in the song at one time. so busy off on my own 'battles' that I effectively abandoned and pushed away the woman I loved. That song always makes me cry. Sadly it is too late for me to make everything up to Lina. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qcVtEy6G1Q

By the way, Sting lives in Highgate, near the cemetery, lol! I used to live there. My eldest son was born in Highgate. My dad came from Highgate area. It is another part of my story.

Ah yeah...
There are a few others - Rammstein's 'Seemann', while I haven't cried with this one, it kind of explains how I often feel:
Komm in mein Boot ein Sturm kommt auf und es wird Nacht
Wo willst du hin so ganz allein treibst du davon
Wer hält deine Hand wenn es dich nach unten zieht
Wo willst du hin so uferlos die kalte See
Come in my boat a storm is rising and it is becoming night
Where do you want to go so completely alone you are drifting away
Who will hold your hand when it pulls you under
Where do you want to go so boundless the cold sea
Come in my boat the autumn wind holds the sails taut
Now you are standing by the lantern with tears in your face the daylight falls on the side the autumn wind sweeps the streets clear
Now you are standing by the lantern you have tears in your face the evening light chases away the shadows time stands still and it becomes autumn
Come in my boat longing will be the helmsman
Come in my boat the best seaman was I
Now you are standing by the lantern you have tears in your face you take the fire from the candle time stands still and it becomes autumn
They only spoke of your mother only the night is so merciless at the end I am left alone time stands still and I am cold

Rammstein's 'Reise Reise':
Even on the waves there is fighting Where fish and flesh are woven into sea One stabs the lance while in the army Another throws it into the ocean
Ahoy
Arise, arise seaman arise Each does it in his own way One thrusts the spear into a man Another then into the fish
Arise, arise seaman arise And the waves cry softly In their blood a spear is lodged They bleed softly into the ocean
The lance must be drowned in flesh Fish and man sink to the depths Where the black soul dwells there is no light on the horizon
Ahoy
Arise, arise seaman arise Each does it in his own way One thrusts the spear into a man Another then into the fish
Arise, arise seaman arise And the waves cry softly In their blood a spear is lodged They bleed softly into the ocean
Arise, arise seaman arise And the waves cry softly In their heart a spear is lodged They bleed themselves dry on the shore
[1] Though written as a noun, "Reise" is obviously used as a verb in the song. The phrase "Reise, Reise" is used by seamen as a wake-up call and finds its roots in the Middle High German verb "risen", which meant "to rise" (to which it is obviously related as well). This verb has since died out in New High German, though the noun was retained and came to mean "journey" or "voyage". The verb "reisen" was rederived from the noun "Reise", but now means "to journey" or "to travel". It seems the old meaning has been preserved in this phrase in the seaman's language.

Reise Reise - with Das Boot excerpts
I also love Indestructible by Disturbed
I love this song because I fight against fear (unnecessary fear), I have fought against Fibromyalgia, Sciatica (and kicked butt - aka won the war), and a whole host of unseen 'spiritual blocks' which many are afraid to 'take on'.
My favorite phrase: Determination that is incorruptible. ;D

Lyrics to Indestructible
Indestructible Lyrics
Another mission, The powers have called me away. Another time, To carry the colors again. My motivation, An oath I've sworn to defend. To win the honor, Of coming back home again. No explanation, Will matter after we begin. Another dark destroyer that's buried within, My true vocation. And now my unfortunate friend, You will discover, A war you're unable to win.
I'll have you know, That I've become...
Indestructible. Determination that is incorruptible. From the other side. A terror to behold. Annihilation will be unavoidable. Every broken enemy will know, That their opponent had to be invincible. Take a last look around while you're alive, I'm an indestructible master of war.
Another reason. Another cause for me to fight. Another fuse uncovered, Now, for me to light. My dedication, To all that I've sworn to protect. I carry out my orders, Without a regret. A declaration, Embedded deep under my skin. A permanent reminder, Of how it began. No hesitation, When I am commanded to strike. You need to know, That you're living the fight of your life.
You will be shown, How I've become...
Indestructible. Determination that is incorruptible. From the other side. A terror to behold. Annihilation will be unavoidable. Every broken enemy will know, That their opponent had to be invincible. Take a last look around while you're alive, I'm an indestructible master of war.
I'm...
Indestructible. Determination that is incorruptible. From the other side. A terror to behold. Annihilation will be unavoidable. Every broken enemy will know, That their opponent had to be invincible. Take a last look around while you're alive, I am indestructible. (Indestructible.)
Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible. From the other side. A terror to behold. Annihilation will be unavoidable. Every broken enemy will know, That their opponent had to be invincible. Take a last look around while you're alive, I'm an indestructible master of war.

I will check that one out. Don't know much about Rammstein to be honest. While we are on the subject of the sea, I love Kate Bush's 'The man with the child in his eyes'. I love to sing this song. And I sing it well. I was once offered the chance to go on TV and do Kate Bush, as I do a good impression of her and have the hair and stuff to be made up to look the same. I totally chickened out, lol. I would not hit a note in front of so many people! I can only really sing on my own or in front of a small audience of folk who know me, lol! www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9rzLsv-3o0

I must confess I have always adored Carmina Burana, the opera by Carl Orff. I first heard the famous opening part of it on a TV commercial back in the 70s and nagged my Mum until she got it for me. Many people wondered why I liked it so very much and I only recently found out it was almost considered a Nazi opera! So I guess now I realise why I love it so much.... There is so much music that means a lot to me. Too much to mention. But I still love Carmina Burana and blasted it out earlier, lol! Lucky my house is detached!

I like the 'O Fortuna - Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi' song from it but that's about it. I have that saved in my 'Dark Classical' YouTube list and also saved in one of my Windows Media Player - Playlists.

Dark classical, lol! It's so inspiring I do not find it dark at all, ha ha! The rest of it is awesome too, in my opinion. It's the only opera I actually love in entirety other than Handel's Messiah of course. I do not like Wagner very much now. Although I am thinking of trying to listen to some of his stuff again.

Kapitan, if you're a fan of Rammstein, I'd recommend you check out Eisbrecher if you haven't already. They're an NDH band with primarily militaristic/naval themes in their lyrics, which I think you'll appreciate Listening to them right now, actually, and they're also where I got my user name from. And YES to Disturbed. I'm convinced their lyrics are poetry. "Indestructible" is a good song, it gets you pumped up and you feel like you can take on literally anything that comes your way. I love it. "Carmina Burana", I love too. I have a classical orchestral version of "O Fortuna", and a version done by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Both are great in their own right; don't ask me to pick favorites, I'm terrible at this. XD There are a number of songs I connect with too; I might create a thread explaining what ones and why. It's easier to tell stories and experiences through music, I find. I kind of wish I became a songwriter, rather than a storyteller in that respect.
