Oh I hear you with this post McCoy. There is definitely quite a bit of "I had it worse" that goes around, even amongst former Nazis, but that is also generally typical of any topic in life too. Try just mentioning to people about something mundane (for example the ear & throat infection that I am currently fighting) & see how many will tell you about a time when they experienced the same thing...only much worse. The part of explaining that you've experienced the same or very similar is to be expected as it expresses genuine empathy or understanding of what the person is speaking to you about, but why do so many feel the need to suggest that their experiences were so much harder than anyone else's? It's not as though anyone is receiving a prize for having had the worst time. LOL! Sincerely, Laurasia
