I'm interested in hearing/discussing with others their pre-III Reich era memories.

Hi Prien.
Welcome back to the forum by the way, it's good to see you around again! ;D
I haven't had many memories of life before joining the SS, but I have recalled being a young boy in my fmailies garden. My father was gone either trying to find work across the border in Denmark, was dead, had abandoned us, or something else like that. In any case, he wasn't there. My mother struggled desperately to provide for the two of us & this large garden that I was working in helped with that.
I have also recalled my mother "giving me" (that's how Hans perceived it) to some boarding/military school that would not only provide me with living quarters, food, & an education, but they would provide for her as well. This was some sort of Nazi or pre-Nazi organization, but it was not the HJ - as Hans had to serve for 1 year in the HJ before joining the SS later on in life. It was here that Nazi idealogy & training was first taught to Hans. At first he had contact with his mother occasionally, like on Holidays, but eventually the contact stopped for some reason. All of these things took place in the 1920s.
Sincerely, Laurasia

I don't have many yet, as I think I am not quite ready to look at them, but I know a bit about what I was doing during that time. If I have any memories, I will certainly share them here!

Re Laurasia: That's interesting. Were you able to find any historical records/references on this? Re Iseke: It would be neat to hear Most of my memories seem to come from that time because service on a U-Boat was boring...monotonous routine for the most part and even the survivors don't remember much. I figured that, because I didn't live very long (only to March '41), I would ask about the time that others would have experienced while I too was alive.

No I haven't had any luck in finding documentation of Hans' youth. Though that isn't for lack of trying. LOL! I did learn about Hans needing to serve in the HJ for one year as a young adult before joining the SS from a questionnaire that Hans filled out that I was able to find. That is what made me realize that it was not the actual HJ that Hans had grown up in. Until that time I had taken it for granted that the organization that took him in must have been the HJ. Sincerely, Laurasia

Oh that's neat! Glad you were able to find some historical record to help you out.

I am afraid that I cannot contribute much to this thread. Anna wasn't born until 1924, so that would be her toddler years! Suddenly, I feel like the baby of the site..haha. I did post a recollection in my thread about one memory that I had from when Anna was a little girl though.

Ah...I was 16 during that year! ...kind of odd, I was born before quite a number of you folks and apparently died sooner...makes me feel like a peculiar old geezer. I read about your memory I wasn't involved with 'party politics' so I can't really contribute much in that respect.

haha..16? You were far from a geezer, but that made me laugh none the less.

From what I know of members here - I was born before you, before Hans (but only 3 years)...I don't know about anyone else though. I've often felt like the time I had the closest 'connection' with was the mid-20s and 1930s (as I only made it to March '41 as far as the '40s are concerned).

I was born in 1905, beat that!
So...I should have a lot of memories to share from the 20s-30s someday when I've gotten past that hump.

LoL! Iseke...you're the super geezer You should though (have a lot of memories)...well, when you get to that point, I'd be interested in reading because you and I wouldn't have been far apart in age during that time... Therefore it'd be nice to hear from someone else who was close to my age and what they remember.

Hi Miss Bothmann. Yeah you were a young little thing, hon. I was already 13 when you were born. LOL! 1905, Iseke? Really? Yep, I think that makes you the senior of the group so far. Sincerely, Laurasia

I know...that is kind of strange to think of. Anna truly didn't even think of the age difference, though I am sure that many people noticed and pointed it out.
