Hi All, I'd like to share what I know of my life in China in the 1930's and see if anyone can possibly shed some light on anything to help me further my search. I know that my name was Hong Shui Xiu and my husband was Li Pan. We lived in or near Shanghai and were effected by the Battle of Shanghai in 1937-38. I was a true Shanghai girl...nice clothes, wealthy. My husband may have been an architect, but I can't find any information on him. I can remember being in a village during or shortly after a battle. I was dressed in red and I was standing next to a white Rolls Royce, and I was smoking a cigarette. I remember not being happy about where I was, but I was there for a reason. The chauffeur was there and a larger man...maybe my husband. There was mud and filth everywhere, and an old man on a bicycle road by. Children were crying and dirty. [Edit: There was also a fire in the distance. I'm pretty sure it was in the city of Shanghai.] I'm not sure yet why I was there. I also remember later in my life sitting in an apartment that was very Americanized, but I don't think I was in America. I was wearing a conservative outfit and a hat with a blusher, and I was looking out a window. Please let me know if any of this strike a chord with you, ESPECIALLY the name Li Pan! I've even emailed China (the Yangtze Hotel was designed by Li Pan, but there's no info on him, so I don't know if that's MY Li Pan), but they have no info, either. Thank you all!

Li Pan is a reknowned architect... Just kidding. I can't believe that you still haven't found anything on him yet! We really, really, really need to get on researching that for you, because I haven't looked in a while, and there are more places to search.
